Laughlin's legal office is asking for volunteers to help provide tax assistance to local members of the military.

"We are looking for anybody and everybody, including civilians," said Capt. Douglas Hansen, 47th Flying Training Wing Legal Office chief of general law.

This season the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program will start on Feb. 2 and run through early April. Each volunteer will have the freedom to set their own appointments so there won't be any conflict with their work schedule. Those volunteers will also receive in class, and computer based training prior to start of the program.

"One benefit to volunteers is that they get federal training on tax prep," said Hansen. "Individuals will also save money on their own taxes."

In 2014, volunteers handled over 100 returns, saving individuals more than $18,000 in total fees, and securing over $170,000 in tax refunds.

Those interested in volunteering, contact Hansen at 298-5172.
