Imagine a base where a crime can be reported at any given time and day, allowing authorities to quickly dispatch units and helping track potential criminal trends developing on base.

That's now Laughlin's reality due to the 47th Security Forces Squadron implementation of its new program: the Crime Stop Line.

"Members can call the line and report crimes, while still remaining anonymous and freeing the phone lines of emergency personnel," said Staff Sgt. Glen Meyer, 47th SFS NCO in charge of police activity and one of the program's creators.

However, the Crime Stop Line doesn't replace emergency telephone numbers such as 9-1-1, rather it is used to report crimes of a non-emergency nature.

"It helps our response time for crimes, and it allows us to track what kinds of crimes are being reported," said Meyer. "If someone has an emergency, though, they should still call 9-1-1."

Crime reports can include domestic violence, suspicious activity, threatening acts or behavior, possession of weapons and or the use or sale of illegal drugs.

"It enhances our community policing," said Master Sgt. Peace, 47th SFS Operations superintendent. "With these reported crimes, it helps us identify areas that may be targets for certain crimes."

The line is open to the public, and members are encouraged to utilize the new program if they have a crime to report.

"We encourage everyone to use the line," said Meyer. "This is another useful way we can stop crime around Laughlin."
