Adventure Race X is around the corner

LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Don't forget! Team XL's 10th annual Adventure Race begins May 3 at 8 a.m. at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.

The race has a variety of obstacles, including running, biking and a water activity. This event will start at Laughlin's Family Camp and will finish at Laughlin's Southwinds Marina at Lake Amistad. Registration fees range from $100 to $180 depending on the team size.

The Adventure Race tradition began in the summer of 2004 by Airmen wanting a challenge for themselves. The race developed into an adventure anyone with enough motivation could accomplish. For the past 10 years, the race has been an opportunity for Airmen on Laughlin to choose their teams and show what they are made of.

"Entering the 10 year anniversary of Laughlin's Adventure Race, this year's event is already gearing up to be the best yet," said Capt. Eugene Salazar, 86th Flying Training Squadron, Adventure Race director. "Our goal for Adventure Race X is to pay homage to tradition while introducing never before seen aspects of teamwork and skill sets."

From its start, Adventure Race has become an event for Laughlin and Del Rio to look forward to each year and a tribute to how closely the two communities work together.

"The Adventure Race is always a good opportunity to bring the Laughlin and Del Rio communities together," said Joel Langton, 47th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs chief. "Adventure Race is an event that Laughlin couldn't do without Del Rio, and Del Rio wouldn't have without Laughlin. The only way it's successful is by us working together."

Teams will meet May 2 at the Losano Fitness Center here between 5 and 8 p.m. to pick up registration information.
