From far off lands to distant stars, libraries provide people of all ages the opportunity to explore an infinite number of worlds, opinions and ideas through books and more.

In honor of this, the base's library is hosting a week-long event from April 14 to 18 designed to highlight everything the library has to offer Team XL.

"This event is a chance for us to show both our support of Laughlin and the value of our library in the community," said Lea Snyder, 47th Force Support Squadron library aide. "We are here to help people achieve their goals, promote the value of education and develop a more social connection with the community."

Developed by the American Library Association, National Library Week helps libraries promote their services from the obvious, such as book loaning, to lesser known things like financial information, bilingual services and even citizenship information.

Here at Laughlin, library goers can find similar information, explained Snyder. The library offers academic support for all levels of education, tools to enhance reading skills, test proctoring, online language courses, e-books and can help people enrich themselves in any number of topics through the books on its shelves.

"In addition to the more obvious things we offer the community, National Library Week helps point out the little things people don't normally think of when talking about the library," said Snyder. "People can print here for free, we have reference areas, children's room and a huge selection of audio books to play in the car for all those San Antonio trips."

During the week, visitors to the library will be given welcome packets explaining in detail what the library offers and can participate in a detailed tour of the library. Visitors will also have a chance to sign a poster entitled the "Declaration for the Right to Libraries," which discusses the need for libraries in people's lives and it will be on display in the library throughout the year.

"We want people to know the library is here to help them achieve their goals," said Snyder. "Whether that goal is simply reading a great book or learning something new."
