LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Job title and unit: 47th Maintenance Directorate T-38 Talon aircraft engine mechanic

Why he XLed: Degnan was the T-38 Talon aircraft division's sole swing shift engine run certifier. He trained 30 personnel, boosting the mission capability rate 7 percent in the last three months. He Detected a fuel strainer leak and repaired the discrepancy, preventing a possible engine fire. He also volunteers for jobs outside of his position description, leading to a 96.7 percent maintenance scheduling effectiveness rate, which is two points more than the Air Education and Training Command standard.
