The Laughlin Officers' Spouses' Club is scheduled to host its annual charitable auction Saturday, March 1, at the Kress Building.

This year's auction theme is "Keep Calm and Bid On," referring to the World War II era slogan.

"The event is open to the Laughlin and the Del Rio community," said Stacy Hilby, OSC's auction chair.

Tickets may be purchased ahead of time at Buffalo Girls, 440 S Main St.; Robert's Jewelers, 1904 Veterans Blvd.; Rio Grounds Café, 1900 N Bedell Ave.; and Energize Café inside Losano Fitness Center. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

"With around 200 people attending last year, we raised a little over $10,000 and our goal this year is to raise another $10,000," said Hilby. "The money we raise from the event goes towards scholarships for local high school seniors and qualified spouses. Our scholarships range from $500 to $2,000. It is our way of supporting our community."

The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the silent auction, and dinner will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the live auction at 7 p.m. Approximately 30 items will be up for bidding. All donations come from the Del Rio and Laughlin community, explained Hilby.

The scholarship does have guidelines for those interested in applying. Applicants must be seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the fall of 2014, live in the local area to include Del Rio, Brackettville and Comstock and must possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better (based on a 4.0 scale), and must be a U.S. citizen. If interested in applying for the Laughlin Officers' Spouses' Club Scholarship, all applications must be turned in by Monday, March 24, 2014.
