The virtual record of emergency data has shown in many cases that military members have forgotten to update their information.

"At a base I was located, the commander went to an airman's house to notify the next-of-kin, but the address wasn't current in the vRED," said Joel Langton, 47th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs chief. "It is a very sad and difficult time to notify a family of this horrible news but even more difficult when vRED has not been updated."

Virtual record of emergency data helps prevent confusion for the organization.

"The vRED are important documents that provide names and contact information of the persons to be notified in case of death, injury, or emergency," said Alejandro Aguilar, 47th FTW Casualty Assistance representative. "It also designates beneficiaries for $100,000 death gratuity pay and unpaid pay and allowances in the event of the member's death."

People should take the time to review their vRED which they can access through the Virtual Military Personnel Flight application via the Air Force Portal website, explained Aguilar.
