The 3rd annual Running with the Bulls 5K/10K race was held Nov. 2, 2013, beginning at the Brown Plaza in Del Rio, Texas, to support the Val Verde Loaves and Fishes food bank that provides food to more than 1,000 local families.

"This year we have once again raised enough money to keep Val Verde Loaves and Fishes operating and feeding local families in the community throughout the year," said Capt. Matthew Jones, 87th Flying Training Squadron member and event coordinator.

In 2011 the event featured 400 runners and raised more than $40,000, and in 2012 approximately 500 runners made it out for the event, raising more than $56,000. This year's Running with the Bulls attracted more than 500 runners, raising $50,000, and taking more than 3,000 pounds of food, for Val Verde Loaves and Fishes.

"With outcomes that are as great as these first three years, it really comes to show how strong the bonds are between Del Rio and Laughlin Air Force Base," said Jones.

While the 87th FTS plans for more future races with the Del Rio community, Loaves and Fishes is thankful for the support.

"The 87th FTS has done a fantastic job in supporting us and will continue to throughout the years," said Bill Cauthorn, Loaves and Fishes president. "The work they do is truly extraordinary and heartfelt."

The success of the event didn't come without the teamwork between Laughlin and Del Rio, explained Jones.

"The Red Bulls would like to thank all the members of Team XL, and Del Rio as well for supporting this great cause, and we hope they come back for future years," said Jones.
