It's that time of year when members of the 47th Flying Training Wing and the Del Rio community lace up their shoes and run with the bulls as a way to raise support for the local food pantry.

The City of Del Rio and Laughlin are scheduled to host the 3rd Annual Running with the Bulls 5K Nov. 2 at Brown Plaza in Del Rio, Texas.

"This year we are adding a 10K option for the same price as the 5K for avid runners," said Capt. Matthew Jones, 87th Flying Training Squadron check flight commander. "Early registration is open until Oct. 26 for $15, and after that runners can register for $20 until 8 a.m. Nov. 2."

For an even greater discount on registration, groups of 10 or more runners can register for $12 per person.

"Hopefully the price difference for a group will attract squadrons to join as a team," said Jones. "We would like to even make the run a competition between the squadrons to bring in more runners."

Proceeds from the race will go to the Val Verde Loaves and Fishes, Del Rio's largest non-profit food bank, providing food to more than 1,000 families a month in the local communities.

"The purpose behind the 5K is to have a day of friendship, fellowship and to build public support," said Jones. "We also have the added benefit of supporting Loaves and Fishes to help out local families in need."

Jones explained, that his aim for the third installment of Running with the Bulls, is to make it even more successful than the previous years.

"When we come together to do events like this, it shows a lot about the relationship between Del Rio and Laughlin," said Jones. "We plan numerous events throughout the year, and they turn out to be pretty successful. I think this shows how community oriented we both are."
