The Laughlin Manor lodging rates are set to change Oct. 1 due to a new Air Force policy, requiring base lodging to cover most routine operational costs with non-appropriated funds.

The fiscal year 2014 rate changes are a result of sequestration, which has made it difficult for Air Force lodging operational expenses to be met by current appropriated funds.

"The way the Air Force is handling this funding issue is good," said Gary Derouen, Laughlin Manor lodging manager. "We needed the rate adjustments to cover our expenses and the Air Force handled it the best way they could, and the effect on guests is minimal and even beneficial."

Visitors to Laughlin will see a slight increase of about $3 for most of the rooms available on base, and a slight decrease in others, explained Derouen. Visiting quarters have increased less than $3 to $56, temporary lodging has dropped to $63.75, which is below current per diem rates, and distinguished visitor quarters have dropped to $58.75.

"With TLF now falling blow per diem and with only a minimum increase in lodging rates, these changes are awesome for Laughlin," said Ramona Garcia, Laughlin Manor quality assurance coordinator.

These price adjustments make it possible for the Laughlin Manor to cover the basic necessities needed to run and operate a lodge such as: linen cleaning, housekeeping, TV and internet, room repairs, security and much more, explained Derouen.

"These very minimal increases are only enough to handle the lack of APF funds," said Derouen. "The Laughlin Manor is still a better deal than most lodging facilities and our rooms are comparable to the outside."
