Team XL launched the 5th annual Feds Feed Families campaign July 5 to help feed hungry families in the surrounding communities.

The campaign, established by the Defense Commissary Agency, gives military personnel an easy way to donate food for the local communities. The campaign will continue until August 23 when the final weighing of donations is scheduled to take place.

"All the donations will be taken to Loaves and Fishes for distribution to families in need the local area," said Capt. Krissi Hrupek, 47th Flying Training Wing T-6 Texan flight safety officer and event coordinator.

Loaves and Fishes members distribute food to 1,050 families a month on average, said Bill Cauthorn, Loaves and Fishes president.

"This program is a great cause because it stays local to feed families in the community," said Hrupek. "It's nice to see the Laughlin airmen and the people of Del Rio helping the local families."

There are numerous designated donation locations and the option of pick up if someone is unable to make it to a donation drop.

"We have donation boxes at the commissary, the exchange, the base's shoppette, the Losano Fitness Center, the library, Anderson Hall, as well as in squadrons around base," said Hrupek. "If someone can't make it to the designated locations, we will come to them and pick up their donations."

With a base-wide goal of 1,500 pounds this year, Laughlin can double last year's donations for the campaign.

"I have no doubt that this year will be the most successful Feds Feed Families campaign to date," said Hrupek. "It's wonderful to be given an opportunity to come together and show our appreciation of Del Rio and give back to the community that cares so much about us."
