Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas -- A storm containing 60 plus mph winds and golf ball sized hail hit Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Feb. 22, 2016.
With the storm came damaged property, to include hundreds of dented cars and homes. But amongst all the chaos you find members of Team XL looking to help those in need.
One group looking to lend a helping hand is Laughlin’s first sergeants. With help from volunteers, the group of Airmen made their rounds to base housing as well as the enlisted and officer dormitories.
“Our goal is to make sure our Airmen have what they need and ensure that they and their families are okay,” said Master Sgt. John Turner, 47th Mission Support Group first sergeant.
Members of the 47th Student Squadron also came together during Laughlin’s time of need by covering broken windows in 22 houses and cleaning up debris from yards and roads.
“It’s great to see everyone acting as wingmen,” said Chief Master Sgt. Erica Shipp, 47th MSG superintendent. “Team XL is working as one and it’s heartwarming to see.”
While those volunteering to help are a valuable resource, the 47th Flying Training safety office reminds those who are cleaning up to wear proper safety equipment such as gloves, boots and safety glasses. And for those traveling around Laughlin or to Del Rio, be cognizant of hanging or fallen tree limbs and other debris in the roadway.
