Unit and job title: 47th Civil Engineer Squadron, firefighter

Why he XLed: Castorena oversaw about $10,000 in medical supplies and ensured the readiness of the supplies by performing weekly tests. He managed the self-contained breathing apparatus program and drove about 150 miles to have eight cascade bottles hydro tested. While being the first responder to the scene of a T-6 Texan II that was having electrical problems, Castorena secured the aircraft to ensure no training hours were lost. He completed the Fire Instructor II certification course and is now slated to instruct 50 flight members. Lastly, as the interim station chief, Castorena has led two fire stations and has resolved four emergency responses.
