Adventure Race XII to be held April 23

Team XL's 12th annual Adventure Race is scheduled to begin April 23 at 7 a.m. on Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.

This year’s race will include a 3 to 4-mile run on Laughlin with various mystery challenges along the way and then a 23-mile bike ride to the South Winds Marina where participants will begin the mile-long water rafting portion of the race.

"This is the toughest race in South Texas," said Capt. Jonathan Andrew, 434^th Flying Training Squadron assistant director of operations. “It will include both physical and mental challenges along the route.”

The Adventure Race tradition began in the summer of 2004 with a few motivated Airmen wanting to challenge themselves. The race developed into an adventure anyone with enough motivation could accomplish. For the past 10 years, the annual race has been an opportunity for Team XL and its neighbors to choose their teams and push their limits.

From its start, the Adventure Race has become an event for Laughlin and Del Rio to look forward to each year and a tribute to how closely the two communities work together, explained Andrew. Every year, the race gets more and more participants from across the state.

"The Adventure Race is always a good opportunity to bring the Laughlin and Del Rio communities together," said Joel Langton, 47th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs chief of community relations. "The Adventure Race is an event that Laughlin couldn't do without Del Rio and Del Rio wouldn't have without Laughlin. The only way it's successful is by us working together."

Registration is open until April 16. Registration prices are below:

• Insane- $100 (one person team)

• Xtreme- $150 (four person teams)

• Relay/Cruiser- $200 (four to eight person team)

 The registration fee also includes a t-shirt and challenge coin along with food and drinks.
