Laughlin’s first Wingman Day of 2016 is right around the corner and ready to kick-off, June 2 and 3.

Members of the 47th Flying Training Wing are preparing for Laughlin’s upcoming Wingman Day, June 2 and 3.

This year’s Wingman Day activities are designed to help emphasize the importance of safety, camaraderie and the four pillars of Comprehensive Airman Fitness.

During Wingman Day, members of Laughlin will have the opportunity to visit Laughlin’s first ever Laughlin Out Loud club expo and bike and motor cycle rally at Club XL.

“The bike and motor cycle rally is a perfect time for Team XL to come together, socialize with our families and relax, all while promoting occupational safety awareness,” said Lt. Col. Cory Christoffer, 47th FTW chief of safety. “The Del Rio Police Department motorcycle instructors will also be providing a safety riding demonstration.”

The club expo will feature booths from each club that has a mentor ready to start club events and a table that will highlight clubs with high interest but no mentors, as a way to give Airmen a chance to pick up and lead a club they are interested in.

“We’re very excited for the expo,” said Senior Airman Gerald Perkins, 47th Medical Operations Squadron health service manager and club expo point of contact. “The goal of these clubs is to give Airmen options and hopefully ease the transition to a new duty station.”

With a day packed full of so many activities, Col. Thomas Shank, 47th FTW commander, would like Airmen to remember the underlying importance of Wingman Day.

“This time is valuable, as it allows us to understand the importance of supporting our wingman in the good and bad times,” said Shank. "Since the birth of our great Air Force, Airmen, who have been slipping the surly bonds of earth, always had a wingman to cover their back, or six. This tradition has carried on to today. We are all wingmen and should watch each other's six.”
