Airmen from Laughlin Air Force Base will be hosting a club expo in the Club XL parking lot, here, from 2 to 4 p.m. June 3, 2016.

The club expo will feature booths from each club that has a mentor ready to start club events; and a table that will highlight clubs with high interest but no mentors, as a way to give Airmen a chance to pick up and lead a club they are interested in.

Clubs are part of Laughlin’s quality of life initiative to help cultivate a healthier environment and camaraderie among base Airmen.

“We believe this is a great way to get new Airmen out of the dorms,” said Senior Airman Dustin Walls, 47th Comptroller Squadron financial analyst. “It will help create a more social environment to build relationships.”

Clubs will be based around Airmen’s interests such as board-games, sports, fishing, running, etc., and will be run by Team XL members.

“The clubs that we are trying to set up here at Laughlin will be run by Airmen,” said Senior Airman Gerald Perkins, 47th Medical Operations Squadron health service manager and Laughlin’s Fantastic Four president. “This will help cultivate leadership because if Airmen don’t put in the work, their club will not be successful.”

From developing leaders to building relationships, the clubs will help create resilient Airmen.

“When we speak about the Comprehensive Airmen Fitness and the pillars of social, physical, spiritual and mental fitness, the establishments of the variety of clubs will empower our Airmen to take care of each other in these areas,” said Master Sgt. Jessica Fleurimond, 47th Medical Group and Wing Staff Agency first sergeant. “As they come together and establish the clubs, they will get to know each other and be there for one another during the good and the hard times.”
