A family-friendly, safe Halloween Published Oct. 22, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Brandon May 47th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas -- Trick-or-treating in base housing is scheduled for Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m. During this time, 'Trunk-or-Treat' will be at the Youth Center from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a trunk decorating contest, candy, cotton candy, games and a haunted house; all free. "We want to create a safe spot for the kids and their families to enjoy their Halloween," said Omar Matos, 47th Force Support Squadron youth programs director. Another event scheduled for Oct. 31 from 5 to 6 p.m. is 'Spooky Tales Story Time'. This free event at the base library will consist of a Halloween story, crafts, candy and free glow bracelets for the children. "The story time will allow families and their children to get to know each other, prepare kids for the night's trick-or-treating, and get children used to story time," said Samantha Walsh, 47th FSS library aid. To make sure Halloween is safe and enjoyable for all, the 47th Security Forces Squadron and volunteers have formed a 'Pumpkin Patrol' that will operate from 6 to 8 p.m. The 'Pumpkin Patrol' will consist of two mobile patrols, about 20 volunteers on foot patrol, and a service and support station at Ribas-Dominicci Circle for any lost children. "Our number one priority is safety," said Staff Sgt. Jontae Simmons, 47th SFS unit training manager. "We want everyone to be able to have a fun time, and enjoy their candy and costumes without having to worry."
