Laughlin Medical Group

Location: Building 375, 590 Mitchell Blvd, Laughlin AFB, TX

The primary mission of the Laughlin Medical Group at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, is to provide comprehensive medical, dental, and aeromedical services to the 47th Flying Training Wing, the Air Force’s largest specialized undergraduate pilot training (SUPT) program. The Laughlin MDG manages the healthcare of over 3,000 Department of Defense beneficiaries and ensures medical readiness for wartime and other global contingencies.

Laughlin Air Force Base opened its first hospital on January 7, 1955. The facility originally featured 50 beds (expandable to 100), seven operating rooms, a dental clinic, and three flight surgeon offices. In 1977, the current facility was completed, encompassing more than 80,000 square feet with 20 beds (expandable to 50), two operating rooms, and a multi-service care unit.

Reflecting the Air Force’s rightsizing initiatives, inpatient services at Laughlin were discontinued on October 1, 1996, and the hospital transitioned to a clinic. The operating rooms and inpatient units were replaced with an outreach clinic and a health and wellness center.

The clinic earned its first accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations in December 1997, with the most recent accreditation awarded in September 2025.

In 2004, the clinic underwent a $7.5 million renovation that modernized its interior to create a more efficient environment for outpatient care.

The Laughlin Medical Group consists of two squadrons with a combined total of 165 medical personnel. The Healthcare Operations Squadron delivers a wide range of healthcare services and support, including Family Health, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Immunizations, TRICARE and Patient Administration Services, Resource Management, Information Systems, and Logistics.

The Operational Medical Readiness Squadron primarily serves Active Duty personnel, providing care in Flight Medicine, Optometry, Health and Wellness, Dental, Public Health, Bioenvironmental Engineering, Mental Health, and Medical Readiness.
