Rio Lo-bowlers claim Laughlin bowling title Published June 15, 2011 By Jessica Brown 47th Flying Training Wing public affairs LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Laughlin's Cactus Bowling Center was the site of a performance here that crowned one team as champions of the 2011 Intramural bowling season. The Rio Lo-bowlers bowling team recently captured first place at the base bowling tournament, defeating the Engineers from the 47th Civil Engineering Squadron by eight pins in the championship match. This season, eight teams comprised of more than 45 Laughlin personnel teamed up to compete for the first place trophy. Intramural sporting events, like the bowling league, allow participants to work as a team and contribute to the camaraderie of Laughlin members. "This event allows teams to build morale, meet others and help burn some steam after long work hours," said Jimmy Hedtkamp, Cactus Lanes Bowling Center manager. Capt. Bret Robbins, 86th Flying Training Squadron instructor pilot, of the Rio Lo-bowlers, agreed that the league has many benefits. "I met many people and made many friends from all around the base that I would not have if I had not participated," Captain Robbins said. Captain Robbins said the members of the Rio Lo-bowlers were pleased with the outcome of the tournament and urge everyone to participate next season or show their support from the side lines. The Cactus Lanes Intramural Bowling League runs from August to May and is open to anyone over the age of 18. For more information contact Cactus Lanes Bowling Center at 830-298-5526.
