LAUGHLN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Laughlin will begin operating from its newly designed west gate on Dec. 1, 2017.
The west gate, operating under 24-hour surveillance, will serve as the base’s only official entrance.
Laughlin officials are pleased to have this new addition to the base and recognize that it was made possible by continued support from the city of Del Rio.
“The west gate is a much needed enhancement to our base,” said Col. Brian Hinsvark, 47th Mission Support Group commander. “Thanks in large part to our city of Del Rio and Val Verde County partners, their continued support partners with us toward finding innovative ways to help evolve and improve our base. This new gate provides our security forces necessary capabilities to effectively ensure the safety of our community.”
In those efforts to ensure continued safety of Laughlin and the Del Rio community, base personnel are encouraged to initially add an additional 10-15 minutes to their daily commute time, at least at the onset. Additionally members are reminded that peak hours for base access are between 6 to 8 a.m. and 3 to 5 p.m.
“We want everyone to be aware of the changing traffic flow patterns, because this new gate location not only effects the base populous, but our local community members,” Hinsvark said.
The west gate will remain open at all times; however, the visitor control center will only be opened Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The base’s north gate, directly off of U.S. Highway 90, will close starting Dec. 1.
