LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Laughlin’s Southwinds Marina is currently undergoing a restoration of its fuel station, scheduled to be done at the start of the new year.
“Fueling capabilities have been down since 2013, so we are excited for this to come to fruition,” said Susan Powell, 47th Force Support Squadron community services flight chief.
“All of the fuel lines have been refreshed, all components are up to code, and the electrical infrastructure of the pumps has been revamped,” Powell said. “Now, instead of having to carry fuel from the tank down to their vessels, customers will be able to fuel up right from the dock.”
Powell said that the marina, located on the southern shore of Lake Amistad, has been going through numerous upgrades in the past year, and with the right funding, should only get better with years to come.
“Because Laughlin members use our resources like the golf course, Club XL, the auto hobby shop, etc., we are able to use that money to give back to the community,” Powell said.
The 47th FSS reported to have delegated $40,200 of its Non-Appropriated Funds towards the marina, adding to the $21,572 received from the Air Force Services Agency via their FY16 Cap Equipment Call to offset the costs of the project.
With all other projects considered, Powell says that the marina should be better than ever before summer of 2017.
