LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- A partnership between the American Red Cross and the 47th Medical Group was recently created to help connect volunteers with opportunities in the family health clinic.
Volunteers can provide assistance with specific tasks, support staff and enhance patient morale.
The Red Cross and the 47th MDG share a common goal – taking care of service members and their families as they protect our nation whether they’re home or abroad.
Some tasks include, but are not limited to, checking-in patients at the family health clinic, refilling prescriptions at the pharmacy or answering phones at command support staff.
“This partnership allows the community to be connected with and show appreciation to the military,” said Maj. Joy Spillers, 47th MDG administrator. “It also paves the way to expand additional services offered by the American Red Cross such as emergency communications services, financial assistance, information and referral services, deployment services, and reconnection workshops.”
“The Service to the Armed Forces program ensures service members and their families have access to the many valuable Red Cross services available to them and to help service members and their families cope with military life,” said Katherine Koebbe, Service to the Armed Forces specialist.
As long as Laughlin needs volunteers to support its mission, the Red Cross will be there, Koebbe explained.
“While many of our volunteers have a connection with the military, we welcome anyone with an interest in serving those who serve to become a Red Cross Volunteer,” Koebbe said.
