Job title and unit: 434th Flying Training Squadron assistant flight commander

Why he XLed: He is a trusted Runway Supervisory Unit training officer and has managed 13 RSU upgrades, administered four exams and scheduled 60 instructor pilots for duty that resulted in the RSU program in full operations during an interim period. He is the number one controller and has managed four in-flight emergencies including an aircraft bird strike, initial solo student pilot gear malfunction and an aircraft over-speed. His actions preserved the lives of six Airmen. He coordinated with six response agencies and controlled two runways, 12 aircraft, six aircraft with low fuel and a runway closed due to an aircraft blown tire. In one week he amassed 5.2 flight hours, 17.5 controller hours, with 625 aircraft movements while completing a military science class and Squadron Officer School exam in only one week. He lead T-6 navigation operations, trained four new members and updated 20 low-level charts with 25 new obstacles that were the key to safe operations for 343 instructor pilots and students.
