"Ladies and gentlemen, you are about to see a story of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery, all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts." Thus begins the sexy, sassy Chicago, the Musical at the Paul Poag Theatre presented on Aug. 13, 14, 20, and 21.

The Upstagers, an all volunteer performing arts group with cast members from Laughlin, present a tale of dreams, deceit and corruption all wrapped up in sequins and fishnet. Based on real-life events in Chicago during the 20's, the musical delivers playful romps and great comedic moments with pizzazz and style.

"It has been a number of years since the Upstagers put on a show that was this dance-intense. We strove throughout the production process to be faithful to the dance roots of the show and I can't wait to get the audiences' reaction to the dance numbers," said Ben Graf, Chicago director and member of the 47th Civil Engineering Squadron.

Cast members Jen Hyten, who plays Roxie, and Christy Rhinesmith, who plays Velma, will thrill the audience by dancing in the trademark steamy Fosse style. Cindy Rhinesmith, rocks the house as the jail matron "Mama" Morton, while Scott Van Landingham, playing Roxy's faithful husband, sways into the audience's heart. Plus, Del Rio dancers showcase their ability in this block-buster musical.

Laughlin's own show their talent too. Robert Wade, 47th Flying Training Wing, plays greedy Billy Flynn, ultimate criminal lawyer who "razzle dazzles 'em"; Master Sgt. Keith Martin, 96th Flying Training Squadron, plays Roxie's lover, the smooth Fred Casely; Julia Jung, 47th CES, portrays the tragedy of Hunyak, the innocent Ukranian; Terra Wade, 47th FTW, exposes the truth about artistic love as Mona, while Stephanie Marquez, 47th CES, shows her stuff in the chorus. The show couldn't go on without Director Ben Graf and technicians Senior Airman Chelsae Wetherbee, 47th Operations Support Squadron, and Staff Sgt. Desiree Economides, 47th FTW.

"I can't tell you how many people, from all over the country, have come to our shows and remarked that our performances are as good as, if not sometimes better than, professional shows. I think, once again, 'Chicago' proves that Del Rio has some of the most talented people you'll find anywhere," said Robert Wade.

Due to construction on Main Street parking, is available in the lots at Canal and Griner Streets and in the old Guarantee lot on Pecan Street.

Parents should know that the show contains murder, violence and adultery, as well as some off color dialogue.

Discounted tickets are available at Del Rio businesses Simply Beautiful, Del Tex RV, The Emporium, and Laughlin's Information, Tickets and Tours. Regular priced tickets will also be available at the door.
