Book sale at Laughlin's BX offers drastic discounts Published June 25, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Blake Mize 47th Flying Training Wing public affairs LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Laughlin members have the opportunity to buy books and other merchandise at drastically discounted prices through Fourth of July weekend. There is a book sale taking place in the Base Exchange that offers thousands of books in varied genres at prices 30 to 80 percent less than a bookstore. "Normally I'm in a tent in a parking lot during the book sales," said Mark O'Kelley, who is with the clearing house sponsoring the sale. "This is a rarity to get an inside location." The sale is located across from the barber shop in the BX and will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. O'Kelley said that in addition to all the books, which can be purchased for as little as 10 cents, there are high-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets that usually sell for almost $400 at major retailers but are priced at less than $40. There are also dolls, hats and other merchandise for sale. Everything for sale is unused. "If the base asks us to stay a week longer because we're doing well, we have no problem doing that," said O'Kelley. "It's a privilege to get to do this."
