Laughlin's Health and Wellness Center offers several services that many members here may not be aware of that could be very beneficial to their physical well being.

From fitness consultants and a registered dietitian to a relaxation room, which includes a state-of-the-art massage chair, Laughlin members have the ability to educate themselves on many different aspects of nutrition.

"We have an awesome facility but nothing compares to the employees who work with such a passion and desire to promote healthy lifestyles," said Ray Torres, the HAWC's fitness program manager and exercise physiologist.

Laughlin's registered dietitian, Stacee Smith, regularly conducts cooking classes where she demonstrates how to prepare nutritious meals. She also holds Nutrition 101 courses that teach the values of a healthy diet.

"We want to help prevent disease and promote overall healthy lifestyles," said Smith. "It is so gratifying to see a client achieve their goals."

The HAWC, free to anyone who has access to the base, is located within Laughlin's award-winning Losano Fitness Center, and even further enhances the facility. With the presence of the HAWC, Laughlin members have access to a complete array of fitness programs. Along with the facility itself and the aerobic, spinning and yoga classes offered, the HAWC provides an avenue for members to attain physical fitness.

"Our goal is to promote healthy lifestyles and to provide the best customer service possible," said Torres.

Torres and Smith agreed that the HAWC is a unique benefit to which not many people in the general public have access.

"The civilian sector does offer businesses that utilize the HAWC's concepts," said Torres. "But it is rare that you find subject-matter experts in the three fields we cover: nutrition, health education and fitness, under one roof."

Although the facility where the HAWC is located is recognized Air Force-wide as being one of the best, Torres said the staff is what makes the HAWC great.

"Our staff is a very proactive group of individuals that have tremendous passion for what we do," he said.
