The Losano Fitness Center staff here held the first-ever Super Fit Jump Start event Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The event was designed to let participants try out six different types of exercise programs to see what fit them the best and then sign up for classes at the center.

"We wanted to let everyone sample what we have to offer," said Afton Hendershot, fitness program director and special events coordinator. "There used to be an Aerobathon event here that was more high energy, but with Super Fit Jump Start everyone does 30-minute workout sessions with our trained instructors and has a chance to see a huge variety of exercise regimes."

Spinning, circuit training, zumba, body sculpting, cardio box and yoga programs were taught during Super Fit.

"It's more of a preview today rather than a full program," said Nicole Rollins, aerobics instructor. "It's free so there's no reason not to come and see all of our classes."

"We had more people sign up than anticipated and I said 'what am I going to do with all these people?' But that's a good problem to have to deal with," said Hendershot.

With the large number of people signed up, the old gym was pushed into action and used for part of the day and the event was extended an additional 30 minutes so all participants could experience every exercise program.

"When I heard about this I said 'what time?'" said Chief Master Sgt. Bernice Belcer, 19th Air Force command chief. "I used to teach aerobics. I love fitness and I love to exercise. This is fun."

Paloma Felan, who teaches two classes every other Friday at the center, taught zumba and cardio box lessons.

"There are all types of people here today; beginners, intermediate and advanced," said Felan, who is a certified Aerobics and Fitness Association of America instructor at Amistad Health and Fitness Center in Del Rio.

By the end of the event, many participants had chosen a favorite program, one they wanted to continue and, perhaps, sign up for at the center. For Rebecca Jaeger, 47th Force Support Squadron, it was cardio box, which incorporates kick boxing.

"I love kick boxing," said Jaeger. "I did Tae-Bo back in the day."

Hendershot said she was very pleased with the turn out and the feedback she was getting from the participants. Her next project will be to get a majority of them signed up for classes.

"We've changed the name of the event but not the focus," Hendershot' said. "We wanted to get more participants and, obviously, that worked. This turned out better than expected."
