Laughlin 5K fun run/walk breaks turnout records

LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Losano Fitness Center experienced a record-breaking number of participants and spectators during the Valentine's Day 5K Fun Run Saturday.

With about 30 spectators to cheer them on, more than 100 base members and their families showed up to participate in the 5K fun run/walk.

The run/walk, which consisted of different age brackets for both men and women, was organized to encourage members to stay fit while having fun at the same time.

"This is the biggest turnout we've seen since the commencement of the fun run/walk," said Lauren Koether, the program director and a fitness and sport specialist for the 47th Force Support Squadron. "It was awesome to see such a large turnout, knowing that XLers take fitness as a big priority. I would personally like to thank all of the participants for showing up motivated and, more importantly, for finishing the race."

Every one that participated received a free t-shirt, and first to third-place winners of each category were given a certificate.

Lt. Col. John Turnipseed, 84th Flying Training Squadron, emerged as the overall winner of the run with a time of 22:58 minutes.
