Laughlin members take stage in Del Rio

LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  Laughlin members are taking center stage in a local musical presented in Del Rio.

Of the 32 cast members in the smash Broadway hit, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, half are affiliated with Laughlin either as military, civilian employees or family members. The production is presented by The Upstagers, Del Rio's award-winning community theatre group. The show opens Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. It will be staged again Aug. 18, Aug. 24 and Aug. 25 at 8 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee Aug. 19. All performances are at the Paul Poag Theatre, 746 South Main St, Del Rio.

For the Aug. 18, performance (known as Laughlin Night) tickets can be purchased at a discount rate of $10 (prices are normally $13 purchased in advance and $16 at the door). This $10 ticket can only be purchased at the Outdoor Recreation Center or at the box office the night of the performance and can only be used Aug. 18th.

These tickets can be purchased by anyone affiliated with Laughlin, civilian or military, and their families.

The Laughlin cast members include Beth Bernards, Ben Graf, Jaime Merkle, Christie and Jennifer Rhinesmith, Stormi Gilman , Heather Fife, Julia Gray, Jennifer Anderson, Kristy Johnson, Brenda Mireles, Keith Lewis, Paul Tully, Dan Burns, Kendrick Cloud and Jessica Horrigan.

The musical comedy hit, based on a true story, ran for four years on Broadway and was made into a hit movie. With tuneful country-western style songs, the musical tells the story of a legendary brothel known as the Chicken Ranch. Run by the friendliest madam in Texas, Miss Mona, and protected by the local sheriff, the Chicken Ranch is frequented by politicians, football teams, and just about everyone. The cozy bordello is thriving until a crusading reporter decides to wage a campaign against it, threatening to shut its doors forever.

Tickets any other night will be the regular price. These tickets may be purchased at the following outlets: Outdoor Rec Center, The Veranda, The Emporium, The Firehouse, Avanti's and Simply Beautiful.
