With fireworks being the choice of entertainment for many Fourth of July celebrations and cookouts, it is important to know the firework policy of Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas and the city of Del Rio.

Laughlin AFB Instruction 32-2001, Paragraph 3.2. Fireworks, states: The use of fireworks and theatrical pyrotechnics, flashpots, sparklers, etc., are prohibited on Laughlin AFB without written approval by the installation commander. A copy of this approval must be forwarded to the Fire Prevention Office no later than 5 days before the event.

"Even though we've had a lot of rain this month, the ground is still dry and subject to catching fire, and if a fire were to start, we don't have the necessary wild fire fighting capabilities that are needed," said David Isbell, 47th Civil Engineer Squadron/Civil Engineer Flight chief of fire emergency services.

Firework use within Del Rio city limits will be declared a nuisance unless it is a public display of fireworks that is conducted in accordance and compliance with all of the terms, conditions, requirements and provisions of Vernon's Texas Statutes Annotated, Article 9205.

Wing Safety's recommendation is to, "be sure that the fireworks display you plan on attending is a legitimate one. Legitimate firework events will have proper authorities and medical staff in attendance."

Del Rio will be hosting a professional fireworks display that is free of charge and enjoyable for the whole family can enjoy this Fourth of July.

The fireworks are scheduled to start at 10 p.m. and can be viewed from Romanelli Park and the Dr. Alfredo Gutierrez Jr. Amphitheatre.
