A Laughlin Airman was killed July 26 on Highway 90 two miles west of the front gate of Laughlin AFB.

Airman 1st Class Gustavo Zavala, a 24-year-old member of the 47th Communications Squadron, was struck and killed by a vehicle just before 2:30 a.m.

"Airman Zavala was a valued member of our team and we are devastated by his sudden loss," said Maj. Jonathan Cabillan, 47th CS commander. "His passing has left a huge hole in all our hearts and he will be sorely missed."

Zavala, a native of Palatine, Ill, arrived at Laughlin in December.

The accident is being investigated by members of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations here and Del Rio Police Department.
