With smiles plastered on their faces and joyous laughter ringing through the air, children searched for Easter eggs April 12 at the Whitehead Memorial Museum in Del Rio, Texas.

The event was organized by Leadership Del Rio, a program offering a unique curriculum designed to promote present and future leaders in the Del Rio area, for children from Del Rio's Pathways Children Shelter.

"Leadership Del Rio allows leaders and organizations to come together for projects that have a wide impact on the community," said Suzanne West, City of Del Rio city attorney.

The program allows two Airmen from Laughlin per year to take the curriculum to improve their leadership skills and maintain the bond between Del Rio and Laughlin.

"In 22 years, I've never experienced a community more involved with the base, to make the base feel like it is part of the community," said Capt. John Farmer, 47th Security Forces Squadron commander and event coordinator. "When it comes to Laughlin and Del Rio, you can't have one without the other."

Various businesses and organizations from Del Rio donated food, supplies, decorations and their time to make the event possible. From Laughlin, members of the 47th SFS volunteered to help with the event, ensuring its success.

"This event is special for the kids," said Yolanda Trevino, Pathways Children Shelter direct care supervisor. "Many of the kids don't get to experience something like this or even be a kid, because they don't have the means. What Leadership Del Rio and members of the city are doing is more than heartwarming."
