The deactivated Laughlin composite squadron was reactivated by the Civil Air Patrol during a ceremony March 23 here.

The Laughlin composite squadron was presented their TX-047 charter by senior member Col. Frank Eldridge, Texas Group Five, commander.

"Having the opportunity to return to Laughlin and offer this leadership opportunity to the younger generation is exciting," said Brooks Cima, CAP Texas wing commander.

The CAP squadron was located on Laughlin and had some presence at the Del Rio airport supporting federal agencies. The chartering of TX-047 opens up the opportunity for Laughlin to house a CAP aircraft full time.

Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the Air Force and has no military obligation associated with membership. Civil Air Patrol focuses on three primary missions: emergency services, aerospace education and cadet training.

"Senior member volunteers are the backbone of the organization, performing the majority of CAP's emergency relief missions and providing cadets with the knowledge and guidance to serve as the next generation of emergency responders and community leaders," said senior member Maj. Leonard Sobieski III, CAP TX-047 charter squadron commander.

The cadet program offers many leadership and learning opportunities. Anyone who is interested in joining the cadet program must be at least 12 years old. To join, contact Sobieski at captx047cc@hotmail.com or 254-523-7118. Meetings are held on Sunday's from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the base library.
