Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas -- Laughlin military members and their families can receive a free annual pass for any of the 410 National Parks in the nation.
“We are proud to recognize the men and women of our armed forces and we hope they take advantage of this pass to enjoy the national parks,” said Chris Ryan, Amistad National Recreation Area superintendent.
The military pass normally priced at $80 also provides free entrance to sites managed by the Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service, Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Land Management, and the Bureau of Reclamation.
Some of the parks in the region that military members will get free access to include Big Bend, El Camino de Tierra Adentro, Fort Davis, Guadalupe Mountains and Padre Island. The nearby Amistad National Recreation Area, features water-based recreation, camping, hiking, rock art viewing and a rich cultural history is already free.
To be qualified for the pass, people must be a current U.S. military member in the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard or a member of the Reserves or National Guard. Family members are also eligible.
To claim a free pass present your military ID at the Amistad National Recreation Area our visitor center located at 9685 U.S. Highway 90 W, Del Rio, Texas. The accepted ID’s are the Department of Defense ID or a Department of Defense ID (DD From 1173) that identifies you as a dependent. The military pass is valid for one year from the month of issuance.
