LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – A mock deployment, “Operation XL,” was held for base and local children ages five to 17 on Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, Nov. 5, 2016.

“Operation XL allows children to experience all phases of deployment,” said Tech. Sgt. Alana Westley, 47th Force Support Squadron family readiness NCO in charge.

During the exercise, junior deployers learned about and went through the process of deploying. They out-processed with Laughlin’s personnel experts to begin the day, then completed various tasks such as conquering an obstacle course, operating a fire hose, learning about the cockpit of an airplane and much more.

The junior deployment reached full capacity with 100 deployers signed up this year.

“I love giving children the opportunity to experience different facets of the military, especially deployments,” Westley said. “Deployments are something our military members and civilians could face at any time.”
