Spring cleaning has come early at the Losano Fitness Center at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, as new workout equipment is slated to replace the current equipment.

Chelsy Larson, 47th Force Support Squadron fitness program director, said the new equipment is aimed at reaching a bigger crowd and getting more people in the gym.

“We want to be able to match other Air Force bases across the world,” said Larson. “If someone comes in from another base, we want the transition from gym to gym to be seamless.”

Along with the various new weight machines on the way, equipment with digital support will also find a home in the Losano Fitness Center--some allowing multiple users to challenge and compete with others, providing a different kind of incentive for the competitive personalities.

While the fitness center’s upgrades are a work-in-progress, some of the equipment is up and running already, such as the brand new treadmills, spin machines and TRX Tactical Training Box located next to the track.

Despite some concerns that the change in equipment is taking away too many essential existing stations, the Losano staff said they aim to address each concern.

The efforts of the fitness center is met with a mix of emotions, but John Partlow, 47th Communications Squadron base records technician and avid gym-goer, said he remains hopeful.

“[The Losano Fitness Center] is always going to be good because they’re always improving,” said Partlow. “They aren’t changing anything--just improving. With that, there’s always going to be hits and misses, sure, but as a whole they’re improving.”

Improvement is the name of the game, according to the Losano Fitness Center staff, who constantly strives to satisfy customers.

“We truly are here for the people,” said Larson. “If there’s a way that we can better equip our people here, then we want to go that route.”
