During the ‘Fiesta of Flight’ open house and airshow at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas on May 12, families attending with children can partake in fun games and attractions located next to the Air Traffic Control tower.

The Kid’s Zone, featuring rides from Big Event Slides, sponsored by the Military Affairs Association and Toyota of Del Rio, will feature fourteen different rides ranging from basketball and soccer, to slides, trampolines, and bungee jumping, among other attractions.

“Big Event Slides are different from what kids in the community have ever seen,” said Chelsy Larson, 47th Force Support Squadron fitness program manager and kid’s zone coordinator. “It’s very unique and exciting to have them here at the airshow!”

Victoria Barlow, 47th Force Support Squadron community programs specialist, says the kid’s zone is a great way to break up the day between the airshow’s aerial acts.

“By having the kid’s zone, it makes it a more family-friendly environment where they would want to spend the entire day,” Barlow said. “Families could come to the airshow, watch the airplanes while the kids run around in the kid’s zone, grab lunch, and go back to the kid’s zone and still watch the airplanes.”

Being on the flightline right next to the ATC tower, according to Barlow, the kid’s zone’s location also gives adults an opportunity to watch the airshow while keeping an eye on their children.

Tickets and costs for the rides will be posted throughout the kid’s zone during the airshow. For more information or questions about the kid’s zone, call Larson at (830) 298-5251.
