LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- First Lieutenant Alexander Frazier, 85th Flying Training Squadron T-6A instructor pilot and flight scheduler was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of Nov. 5, 2018, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.
The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Lee Gentile, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.
Frazier, a native of Colorado Springs, Colorado works out of a flight room hidden away in the maze-like corridors of the 47th Student Squadron building. There, he coordinates and tracks student pilots’ progress through their learning careers at Laughlin.
He was also in charge of getting fellow members tested on their physical training test as the squadron’s physical training leader, ensuring they are fit-to-fight.
“I was able to get my CPR and PTL certifications and now I’ve tested 6 members from the squadron,” he said.
Frazier was hand-selected to be the point of contact for two fini-flights and played a key role in ensuring the pilots received the highest respect as their flying careers came to an end.
“You want to make it as good as a fini-flight as possible because it is their last flight they’re going to have in this air frame,” Frazier said. “It gives me anxiety sometimes but at the end it feels very rewarding you just helped them get done with his last flight and set everything up so he or she remembers [that moment].”
Ensuring his staff and squadron are up-to-date on their physical test assessment, giving the highest respect in planning and coordinating two fini-flights and more earned Frazier this week’s “XLer” of the week award.
