LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas—Aliyah Negley, 47th Flying Training Wing community support coordinator, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer of the Week”, for the week of Feb. 7, 2019, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.
The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Lee Gentile, 47th FTW commander, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.
Negley, through her role as community support coordinator, emphasized Air Education and Training Command’s support programs around Laughlin. The Caring for People Forum and the Community Action Team aim to improve the quality of life for Airmen on base by providing resources and support they may otherwise not have known about.
“I work with a great group of folks who mobilize and prioritize taking care of the total force Airmen so they can be excellent in their mission readiness and capabilities,” Negley said. “It’s absolutely, vitally important that people feel connected. People need to feel connected to something greater than themselves to keep them going.”
She also put in motion a plan to consolidate Laughlin’s support organization and group-level support programs into an umbrella organization, providing coverage for the entire base and streamlining efforts to consistently staff and equip the new support organization.
“Laughlin is looking to model where resources can be found to a single facility,” Negley said. “We’re looking at consolidating Equal Opportunity, Violence Prevention, Sexual Assault Prevention Representative and myself. It’s meant to aid people by providing a single-source point of contact and a way to provide assistance without a negative stigma.”
For her role in keeping Laughlin’s support services running and streamlining and consolidating services, Negley earned the “XLer of the Week.”
“I believe many hands make light work,” Negley said. “I am fortunate and bless to work with some amazing folks who are committed to strengthening the fabric of the 47th Flying Training Wing, one Airman at a time.”
