Three years ago, the pro shop at the Leaning Pines Golf Course at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, consisted of only a small market accompanying a couple of couches meant for social functions.

Fast forward to March 5, 2019, the shop now consists of Bogeys, a full course kitchen and dining area serving breakfast and lunch every day of the week, including weekends.

“You can hardly find a golf course that doesn’t have some form a snack bar,” said James “Beau” Linder, 47th Force Support Squadron Leaning Pines Golf Course facility manager. “I thought we were missing an opportunity to provide more service to the Airmen on Laughlin.”

With a focus on barbecue for lunches, hot dogs, bratwursts, hot-links, sausages, and a home-like breakfast, Bogeys seeks to create an atmosphere of quick, easy food to go, while creating a sit-down, restaurant environment for those with more time to spare.

“It tastes good, the barbecue is excellent,” he said. “My favorites are the smoked chicken and the pulled pork.”

The snack bar is also planning on including monthly specials every Friday, starting with March’s chicken salad sandwiches or April’s shrimp special.  Along with monthly specials, the golf course is planning on revamping their patio and gathering areas to include new furniture and barbecuing grills.

“We want to make this a place people can come and hang out at,” he said. “Picnics, squadron events—everything. We can do it here now.”

The Bogey’s snack bar is merely one of many additional changes that were and are being made to the golf course, in an effort to revamp and renovate the club house and the course.

“We’ve come a long way at the golf course in the last three years now,” he said. “We’re always trying to make it better.”
