LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Starting this month, the 47th Flying Training Wing will begin a new initiative designed to improve morale and reduce the stigma of help-seeking behaviors.
The “Professionalism, Airpower, Vitality and Excellence” campaign, or PAVE, reimagines the less popular mandatory seminars used today with tools aimed to turn workplaces into healthy communities.
“It’s designed to encourage connectedness and cultivate resiliency,” said Aliyah Negley, 47th Flying Training Wing community support coordinator. “In its simplest terms, it’s meant to bring people together and attempt to create and harness positive coping skills.”
The new program is modeled after the United States Armed Forces in Europe’s resiliency program, which has separate focuses on resilience, prevention, and intervention.
With the success of the program at USAFE, Air Education and Training Command has taken note and seeks to roll out its own version which is coming to Laughlin.
“One of my hopes is it would go away from being a program, and more into the way we do business,” she said. “I hope once we get it up and running, it will help give people a way to connect and bring one another together to maintain the warfighter and keep on with the mission.”
The program, described by Negley, is meant to be a living framework, and is not as rigid in requirements for participants. Due to this, feedback and concerns are encouraged and can be personalized for shops as necessary.
“There’s a new program and a new name for everything—programs come and go,” she said. “If we can move away from that and move to normalizing that sense of belonging and connectedness, maybe we will see some changes.”
