Laughlin’s residents and employees will be making adjustments to their daily commutes after the West Gate closed July 17, 2021 to allow for construction to get underway on several site upgrades on our gate infrastructure.

Base access is limited to the North Gate for the duration of the project which is expected to last up to 60 days.

“The Department of Defense has set protection standards for every military installation,” said Mr. Chuck McKaughan, base antiterrorism program manager.

West Gate upgrades include a new entry ramp, lighting, curbing, and crash resistant walls to allow for better security. There will also be an upgraded identification checkpoint to help with traffic flow during peak travel times.

McKaughan cautions anyone new to using the North Gate to be careful due to train tracks across from the base.

“The North Gate is most familiar to long time employees and installation personnel.  As with any change, installation leadership and Security Forces are requesting patience from all personnel attempting to enter the installation so that we can provide the required protection to our installation assets – most importantly our personnel.”
