The 47th Flying Training Wing is searching for outstanding members of the community to be honored as “Honorary XLers” during a day of celebration on Laughlin Air Force Base scheduled for November 17, 2022.

“We are so thankful to be a part of a community that cares about our service members and families,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Kevin Davidson, 47th FTW commander. “We wouldn’t have 80 years of Laughlin without 80 years of Del Rio, and we want to share our gratitude by recognizing some of the heroes within our community.”

Anyone is free to nominate someone they consider as a Del Rio hero! This could be, but is not limited to: a wounded warrior, an average citizen who heroically saved a life, a renowned teacher, community volunteer, a local firefighter, paramedic or police officer, one who mentors children or volunteers as a coach or tutor in a youth program, or someone who dedicates their life to working with at-risk children. We are fortunate to have many heroes in the community, and we want to honor them!

When selecting your hero, please keep in mind that active-duty, reserve, or guard military members, elected and appointed officials, unit honorary commanders, newscasters, or reporters are ineligible for selection. Those selected will be welcomed on the base to participate in a recognition day and paired with one our own heroes for a first-hand immersion into the 47th FTW mission.

To nominate a hero, please fill out the application linked here by October 12, 2022 and send it to 47FTWPA.Tasker@us.af.mil. Self-nominations are permitted and must include the required two references. Laughlin officials will make their final determination on who will participate and appreciate your input. We are excited to conclude our 80th Aniversario celebrations with this opportunity to thank this wonderful community!
