The Wild, Wild West Independence Day Rodeo is slated for July 5 and 6 at the Val Verde County Fairgrounds.

The rodeo is hosted by the Rotary Club of Del Rio, who has given approximately 1,000 free tickets to Laughlin members.

"The free tickets being offered to Team XL for this event is another example of the good will and partnership we at Laughlin share with the local community," said 1st Lt. James Ramirez, 47th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs deputy chief.

The annual Independence Day Rodeo is the Del Rio Rotary Club's main fundraiser for the year and is used to support the rotary club's numerous projects, according to Laura Langton, the Del Rio Rotary Club member and event coordinator.

"We use the money earned at this event to fund projects like $10,000 in college scholarships, working with Pathways Children's Home, keeping Rotary Park updated and funding Rotary Village Elderly Housing," said Langton. "These are just a few of the projects we support."

In addition to the 1,000 free tickets available to Laughlin members, law enforcement and military personnel may show their badge or ID at the door to receive admission.

To purchase a ticket at the door, children 5 years old and under get in free, children 6 to 18 years old are $5 at the gate, and adults 19 and up are $10 at the gate.

No outside food is allowed at the event, and food will be available for sale at the concessions.

The event will also host a photo competition and there will be a $100 Visa gift card prize awarded for the best photo taken of the event that is uploaded to the event's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/delriorotaryclub.

The gates open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. on both nights.

"If you are trying to find something to do over the holiday, come out and join us at the rodeo," said Laura. "Enjoy an evening of fun and consider volunteering your time to make this a memorable event."
