Devil Dash 5K to support Wounded Warriors Project Published March 1, 2013 By 2nd Lt. Lyle T. Ratcliffe 47th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 434th Flying Training Squadron booster club is hosting a 5K run and walk, starting at the 47th Operations Group building supporting the Wounded Warriors Project March 9. The first Devil Dash 5K run and walk will help injured service members by supporting the WWP. "We never want to lose sight of the people who serve in harm's way protecting our country," said Capt. Taylor Roach, 434th FTS assistant flight commander "We are in a great position here to help those who have already sacrificed so much." The 434th FTS Red Devil Club ran for the WWP last year in San Antonio, Texas, and that experience inspired the 434th booster club to start a new tradition at Laughlin. "While running, I wondered why our squadron couldn't do something similar at Laughlin to support our brothers and sisters," said Lt. Col. Mike Land, 434th FTS commander. "All it took was for the ball to start rolling and sure enough, on March 9, this event will be a reality". The event's goal is to raise $10,000 for the WWP. According to the WWP, their mission is to raise awareness for the needs of injured service members, and to provide programs and services to meet their need. "The mission of the Devil Dash is simple," said Land. "We want to recognize and support heroic sacrifices by members of our armed forces. " The Devil Dash is open to Team XL and the Del Rio community. Registration is $20 and includes a t-shirt. "Supporting the WWP through the Devil Dash 5k is an easy way to help our wounded veterans while also highlighting Laughlin and the City of Del Rio's support for current Team XL members deployed overseas," said Lt. Col. Drew Morrison, 434th FTS director of operations. For more information visit the Devil Dash 5K Facebook page at www.facebook.com/devildash5k.
