Summer is finally here and for approximately two months, children may experience moments where they are at home with nothing to do.

Summer camp, taking place at Laughlin's School Age Program between now and Aug. 19, is an excellent way of solving this problem.

"Youth programs, like summer camp, offer enriching activities for kids to do instead of being home, bored during the day," said Justin Jenkins, 47th Force Support Squadron youth program instructor.

There are two separate programs that children can be enrolled in, one for children ages nine and up and one for children between ages of five through 12. Each of these programs consists of about 40 kids each day giving children the opportunity to make new friends.

"We make sure kids have a safe and enjoyable place to hang out where they can have fun together. One of my favorite reasons summer camp is a positive program is that it helps keep kids out of trouble," said April Shobe, 47th FSS youth programs and sports director.

Summer camp has kids participate in a variety of activities like arts and crafts, science experiments, field trips, community service, dramatic and literary art activities, swimming, outdoor events and much more.

"The goal of this program is to help the youth enrich and enjoy their summer with constructive activities and things to do other than video games. All this is possible with the activities that the kids participate in throughout the summer," Jenkins said.

Summer camp has already begun but it's not too late to enroll your child. New activities take place every day and new students are always welcome.

"Kids enjoy the good things that take place at summer camp. There are always different activities to take part in," Shobe said.
