Laughlin OSC set to host annual Charitable Auction March 5 Published Feb. 23, 2011 By Shannon Ambroson First Vice President, Laughlin Officers' Spouses' Club LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Laughlin Officers' Spouses' Club will host its annual Charitable Auction Saturday, March 5 at San Felipe Country Club. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets may be purchased ahead of time at the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce, What's the Scoop (on base) or by calling 830-488-6003. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with the start of the silent auction and dessert auction. A barbeque dinner will be served outdoors at 6 p.m. with a live bluegrass band beginning shortly after. The live auction will begin at 7 p.m. with Del Rio's own Jim Bush acting as auctioneer. Patrons may bid on items in both silent and live auctions in a range of prices and categories. Items may be bundled together for bidding but will include airline tickets, hotel stays, wine baskets, gift cards, children's items, jewelry and much more. All items will be donated by local and national businesses and community members as well as individuals and squadrons at Laughlin. "Once again all of the base squadrons are donating themed baskets and are involved in a little friendly competition," said Kerry Reifel, auction organizer. After years of hosting the auction on base, the LOSC held the event in Del Rio last year to better include members of both the military and Del Rio communities. The spouses decided to repeat the action this year due to the past year's success. "Even though the LOSC hosts this event," Reifel said, "the results of our fundraising really extend beyond the base and into the community. As such, we would like to make it easy for the community to join us for this annual event and the country club is a perfect venue for that." Money raised from the event goes back into the LOSC Charitable Fund, which rewards scholarships and offers donations to individuals and organizations at Laughlin and in the Del Rio community. "Last year we earned over $7,000 that went directly to our scholarship fund that benefits both military and community members," Reifel said. "This year our goal is to raise $10,000." The theme this year is How the West was Won. There is no required dress code, but suggested dress is Western Casual. "The Country Club will be decked out in Western finery," Reifel said. "It should be a wonderful evening with an opportunity to bid on a variety of fabulous items to include some fabulous desserts."
