A former Laughlin wing commander will speak to Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training class 11-05 Friday morning, as part of their graduation ceremony.

Brigadier Gen. Tod Wolters, director of Air, Space and Cyberspace Operations for Air Force Space Command, served as 47th Flying Training Wing commander from July of 2004 until April of 2006.

"It's a real honor for us to have him back," said Col. Michael Frankel, 47th Flying Training Wing commander. "He led Team XL to great heights while he was here and since has served his nation proudly during a time of war."

After leaving Laughlin, then Colonel Wolters took command of the 325th Fighter Wing at Tyndall AFB, Fla., leading it until March of 2008. There, he saw the introduction of the F-22 into the Air Force inventory. He was also selected for and promoted to brigadier general while there.

Afterwards, he served as the deputy commander of Political-Military Affairs in the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan for a year before assuming his position in Space Command.

"I've had a lot of great jobs since leading Team XL, but the wonderful people in Del Rio have always had a place in my heart," General Wolters said. "I can't wait to get back and see everyone on Team XL and that great local community."

General Wolters is going to speak at the graduation ceremony and be part of the festivities honoring the class at Friday evening's banquet.

The general has been selected for his next job as deputy commander of Air, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan and also commander of the 9th Air and Space Expeditionary Task Force-Afghanistan located in Kabul.

"I love serving with our men and women on the front lines," General Wolters said.
