LOSC gears up to hold its annual charitable auction Published March 8, 2010 By Shannon Ambroson LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Laughlin Officers' Spouses' Club will hold its annual charitable auction March 27. The event, a tradition at Laughlin, is usually held on base. This year marks a break in tradition as the spouses venture into the community and host the fundraiser at the San Felipe Country Club. "The LOSC is really trying to develop long-standing relationships with the businesses and members of the Del Rio community," said Dani Moulton, LOSC 2nd Vice President and event chair. "The Country Club is a beautiful venue perfect for the blending of the two communities." Open to all civilian and military personnel and members of the Del Rio community, the event is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction, featuring items such as themed baskets and desserts, and a live band playing an array of music selections and requests. The main event, which is the live auction, will begin at 7 p.m. "The live auction includes wonderful items to bid on including trips to the Texas Hill Country, bed and breakfast get-aways in Fredericksburg, Uvalde and Utopia, private winery tours and tickets to shows, museums and theme parks in San Antonio, Del Rio and Fredericksburg," Moulton said. "We also just finalized a package including a trip to Houston with roundtrip airfare and lodging and tickets to visit NASA, the aquarium and zoo." "For those flying enthusiasts, there is even a ride in an old 'war bird,'" Moulton continued. "We have a variety of large ticket items to bid on as well as smaller items to hopefully fit everyone's budget." Tickets may be purchased early at the San Felipe Country Club in Del Rio, Coffee Now located in the Losano Fitness Center on Laughlin or by e-mail at oscauction2010@yahoo.com for $15.00, or at the door the night of the event for $20.00. The dress code is casual. All winning bid items will be available that evening and must be paid the night of the auction by cash or check. "Proceeds from the auction go towards scholarships and charitable donations supporting Laughlin and the surrounding Del Rio community," Moulton said. The LOSC is a non-profit and charitable organization comprised of active-duty military spouses stationed at Laughlin. The organization holds the annual charitable auction to raise funds to donate to individuals and families in need. "The event finds success with the efforts of our members as well as the numerous companies in and around the area that donate their goods and services to be auctioned," Moulton said. "It is through this effort that it is possible to help those who strive to further their education and allows the LOSC to award thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving students at an annual scholarship awards banquet."
