It's a totally new bowling experience and more at the Cactus Lanes Bowling Center. With a major remodeling project completed in less than 60 days, the 42-year-old center is welcoming back regular bowlers and attracting new ones.

The $540,000 dollar renovation includes high-tech, state-of-the-art bowling equipment, upgraded lights and sound, and a new computer software package that adds more graphics and better interaction for the bowlers.

"It's now more than just a bowling center," said Jeff Bass, bowling operations manager. "It's a very versatile place that can host social events, squadron parties, whatever event you might have."

According to Bass, the volume of bowlers has gone up 300%. Some of that was due to everything being brand new and some due to the quality of the equipment, he said.

Airman 1st Class Cody Webb, 47thMedical Support Squadron, a regular bowler since arriving here in April of 2009, was very pleased with the renovations.

"The new lanes have made my scores go up," said the Airman with a smile. "The whole place is a lot better. There are a lot more people bowling now. Last Friday my wife, Ashley, and our friends had to wait to get a lane."

Bass said that many other bowlers have commented to him that their scores have also improved. He added that having to wait on a lane is quite rare.

"The reliability of the equipment has increased triple fold," said Bass. "That helps the bowlers' experience. The old machines took a while to repair but, so far, we've had only one minor mechanical issue and that was resolved within a few minutes."

New packages for birthday parties have also been added to better serve the Laughlin community, Bass said. "I've seen a big increase in birthday parties already."

The Fast Lane Cafe will be receiving all new cooking equipment soon so wait times for food will decrease and the food will be fresher. New menu items have been added including several appetizers. Catering services are now available. The locker rooms and restrooms are also slated for renovation.

According to Bass, the only downside during the shorter-than-expected renovation was the regular league bowlers had to take a month off. Bass said they didn't mind as they understood that the new lane installation would improve their bowling experience. Bass also said the league bowlers are happy and back in full force.
